On May 17, a group of over 40 international students from Shandong Jiaotong University embarked on a cultural immersion tour to Rose Town in Pingyin County, Shandong. Wandering through vast fields of blooming roses, they experienced the enchanting allure of the region’s signature industry—Pingyin roses—and explored how local traditions and modern industry intertwine. The event not only showcased the fragrance and beauty of the rose industry but also served as a vibrant platform for international friendship and cultural exchange.
At the “Rose Flower Village” rural complex operated by Fanglei, the students were immediately captivated by the breathtaking sight of colorful roses in full bloom. As they strolled through the flower fields, the dazzling variety of rose species and the intoxicating fragrance drew praise and excitement. Many paused to snap photos, capturing the moment with smiles and admiration. The journey continued at the Rose Art Base, where students sampled rose-infused delicacies such as rose pastries and rose tea. The unique flavors left a lingering impression, allowing them to savor the essence of rose culture—literally—through taste.
Inside the local specialty product experience hall, the students transformed into “little artisans,” taking part in the hands-on process of making rose jam under the guidance of skilled professionals. From sorting petals to mixing and simmering, every step sparked curiosity and enthusiasm. As the sweet, fragrant jam took shape, smiles of pride lit up their faces, reflecting their growing appreciation for traditional Chinese craftsmanship.
Later, the group visited Pingyin’s high-end rose industry park, where they observed the extraction of rose essential oil and the production of rose tea up close. The modern equipment and meticulous production processes left a deep impression. Staff members provided an in-depth explanation of rose cultivation, its cultural significance, and the economic impact of Pingyin's rose industry—demonstrating how “one flower can enrich an entire region.”
This immersive experience in Rose Town is a vivid example of Pingyin County’s efforts to integrate culture and tourism while deepening international exchange. The romantic and aromatic "rose journey" left lasting memories for the students, helping to spread Pingyin’s rose culture abroad and fostering intercultural understanding. Looking ahead, Pingyin will continue to explore the rich cultural heritage of roses, enhance its cultural tourism offerings, and build a global platform for cultural exchange—using its fragrant rose industry as a bridge to showcase the unique charm of China’s “Rose Capital” to the world.
